ABOUT THE FILM
For interviews and more information, visit chicagorot.com.
After years of rotting in Joliet, Les, a wrongfully imprisoned street legend known as “The Ghoul,” is released into a mad search through Chicago’s back alleys for the man who slaughtered his mother and robbed him of his soul. Aided by enigmatic benefactors, he must delve beneath the city into a modern labyrinth of gutters whose tendrils have grown deep while he was gone. What unfolds is a desperate tale of brute force tragedy set in the supernatural underworld of Chicago, where heroes are reduced to horror-shows, villains dream of their own demise, and good and evil prove to be antiquated concepts.
ABOUT ROT STUDIOS
Comprised of Brant McCrea, Dorian Weinzimmer, Jeremy Vranich, Sam Fell, Catherine Lynch, Ryan Berena, and Kelly Kerr, Rot Studios is a collective of bloodthirsty genre artists whose boldness is outweighed only by their passion for furthering the cinematic momentum of Chicago.
Each of these pure cinephiles was raised among roving bands of VHS tapes, nourished by the thrill of the midnight movie, and shaped by the hands of the masters, spawning a shared longing for films of a very different and far more obscure breed than those offered on the mainstream bill of fare. Not content to let this dearth stand unchecked, they took matters into their own audacious hands.
After individually cutting their teeth on short films, music videos, documentaries, commercials, live events, and a lifetime’s worth of web videos, this brash assemblage of talent came together for Chicago Rot, their first foray into feature filmmaking. Set over one revenge-fueled day in a supernatural vision of the city they love, steeped in high art and low murder, Chicago Rot perfectly showcases the unique blend of discipline and chaos they bring to their craft.
ABOUT ORACLE FILM & APERTURE SERIES
The Aperture Series is hosted by Oracle Film. Each series consists of a weekend dedicated to showcasing the films of individual independent filmmakers. Providing them with an audience, while offering free screenings to the community through Oracle Production’s Public Access Theatre model.
With our film projects, we embark on an exploration of the medium to stretch the limitations of the cinematic art form. Oracle Film joins its audience in a dialogue dissecting the barriers between the filmmaker and the film viewer. Oracle Film elevates its community by placing free film at the citizens’ fingertips.
From the simplest narrative to the experimental and avant-garde; from showcasing the individual filmmaker to producing works of our own – we make art, we make it free, and we share it with as many people possible – for free.
