ABOUT THE FILMMAKER: Michal Janicki
Michal Janicki landed in the United States in jelly sandals, white short shorts and no knowledge of the English language at the tender age of thirteen. Nine years later, he graduated with a BFA in graphic design from University of Illinois at Chicago, and embarked on his career in the world of brand identity and digital design. Simultaneously, he began work with Chicago’s own Trap Door Theatre as their resident photographer and poster designer. After a drunken promise at a benefit party, he became obligated to create his first film, a promotional piece for a non-profit organization. Without much working knowledge of the medium, he nonetheless completed the assignment, and soon began recruiting his friends to perform in front of and behind the camera. A couple years later, he formed a collaborative alliance with his favorite artists and other organizations named Studiobema, where he and his comrades create short experimental films to this day. His work has been featured in many independent theaters in Chicago, as well as in Europe and Australia.
