Get to know Dominique Lewis –
Sponsor and Champion of Public Access Theatre
“I think theatre is extremely important. It can connect you to your community, help you see things about the world you weren’t aware of, it can help to show you that you’re not alone in something that you’re experiencing. It’s vital to keep theater accessible to everyone.”
Oracle Productions*: What do you do when you’re not seeing and supporting theatre?
Dominique Lewis: I volunteer with the Glenwood Sunday Market in Rogers Park as well as the Peterson Garden Project. I’m working really hard on being a part of my community and a part of making it better.
O*: What is your passion?
D: I’m new to it, but I’m working on becoming a better citizen. I want to use my time and resources to help make things better for everyone.
O*: Which Oracle shows have been your favorites?
D: This is kind of hard to answer because I have had such great experiences at Oracle shows. They are always dynamic, challenging, and beautiful. I think the show that I’ve liked the most was TERMEN VOX MACHINA followed very closely by IRONMISTRESS. THE GHOST SONATA and THE CASTLE were also brilliant.
O*: Why is art for all important to you?
D: I think theatre is extremely important. It can connect you to your community, help you see things about the world you weren’t aware of, it can help to show you that you’re not alone in something that you’re experiencing. It’s vital to keep theatre accessible to everyone.
O*: What made you decide to become a member of The Forty 4?
D: I love the work that I’ve seen from Oracle and it amazes me that I can be a part of something like that for so little every month.
O*: Would you encourage others to join The Forty 4? If so what would you say?
D: I would indeed. I would say “did you see that? That was amazing, you should help make sure everyone can see it. You can do that for only $10 a month.”
O*: What does your ideal weekend entail?
D: Being out in Chicago and connecting with friends in whatever ways we’re into for that weekend is really the best.
O*: If you couldn’t spend a dime, what would you do for fun on a day off?
D: Most likely read science fiction. I have three books on the top of my list right now and it feels like I don’t have any time to get through them. Oh, and catch a show at Oracle, of course.
O*: Tell us what you love about Chicago.
D: I love how complicated it is. I love how simple it can be. I love the shows there are to see, the El, the fortitude, the food (oh, god, the food!). I love the variety of awesome sh*t there is to do.
Thank you to Dominique, and all members of The Forty 4! Your generosity is priceless!
